Are you planning to get a better GPU and/or monitor in not an exceedingly distant time in the future?
If you stay on 1080p (where you are now), and upgrade the graphics card (GPU), the CPU get taxed more and maybe I would recommend an Intel build, even though I favor AMD.
If you plan migrating to 1440p / 4k then the CPU is less important as most of the heavy lifting is done by the GPU, and the Ryzen would be more than fine.
I don’t think I’ll get a new display any time soon - I’m really satisfied with the one I have. I also don’t think I’ll upgrade my GPU for a while - I’m fine running everything on low settings, as long as it doesn’t lag to much .
As a sidenote, there should be decent discounts on the 2600X currently and it’s not that slower than the 3600X in games (single digit percentage on average)
Oh wow, thanks for the tip about the campaign - my local shop has it off for 29 % - I think I’ll replace the 3600x with the 2600x.
Also, off the top of my mind, I would ditch that flotilla of old disk drives and replace them with a single, modern large drive.
You can get a 4 TB for about 100 Euros and it will absolutely shred the existing drives, which can maybe moved to backup or archival duties if their SMART attributes are good enough (then again, if you use tired drives for e.g. game backups it’s OK as long as they’re not just about to die).
PS: push comes to shove you can shuck an external drive and save some money.
That’s definitely a good idea.
Thanks for all the help .
EDIT: forgot to add one quote.
EDIT 2: I would just like to mention that I’ve made my order - so there’s no need to attempt to further help me - except if you can explain what makes a good harddrive .
Thanks again all for the help. And especially @alms - thank you again .
