Jealous, even though I must have seen Fellowship at least 4 times in the theatre.
It’s the slowest paced of the trilogy, although it’s still my favorite. Of course, once I watched the extended cut it was hard to go back to the cinema version.
Personally, I definitely wouldn’t want it to be trimmed at all. Pretty much everything in there needs to be there.
There are thousands of little references that book readers will notice, whereas non book readers will mostly miss them, but I guess they might sometimes seem confusing.
The bit with the elves in the woods is definitely necessary. Sean Bean does a great job with Boromir, even though he doesn’t have a lot of time to develop him. Unlike the books, his character is fleshed out a fair bit more in the 3rd movie. (though I don’t remember if that’s the release version or the extended one) .
Gandalf sent the moth to get the eagle, don’t think it had anything to do with the elves. It’s supposed to come out of the blue though.
