I watched the first five episodes of Masters of the Universe: Revelations, which was… surprisingly good?
It’s been reviewed-bombed to hell and back by shockingly moronic man-children (evidence, if evidence were needed, never to trust user scores), but there was literally nothing significant wrong with it. If you liked He-Man at all as a kid, it’s like, a fun watch on a number of levels, and I recommend it.
People were trying to make out it was “woke” or something, which, frankly, is like, very confusing. It’s about as “woke” for now as the original He-Man was for the 1980s, which is to say, not very lol, but not retrogressive. Teela (voiced by Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar) is kind of the main character for the first half, though I suspect this will change as the voice actor they have for He-Man/Prince Adam is very good, and like, one of the previous He-Mans we see at one point is black (and hot AF to be honest), but like, that’s it. Apparently that was way too much for some fans. I guess they sort of imply Teela’s bi and has a girlfriend but it sure isn’t stated and they could just be buds, and like it’s 2021 guys. That’s like the equivalent of having a female character at all in 1984.
Anyway, it’s fun, animation is a decent update of the style (and sometimes looks great), the music is great, and very watchable. Be prepared for it to end on a ridiculous cliffhanger or wait until the 2nd half is also available though.
