Halfway through season 2. Apparently when Darabont stepped down, the TV Series was supposed to steer towards a higher degree of faithfulness to the comics.
Speaking of which, Daryl (Reedus) is a character that is original to the TV show, and has been definitely going mellow lately.
As he was in Season 1, he would have probably killed Andrea for shooting him, and spat in Carol’s face.
Right now, he kind of reminds me of that Sam Rockwell character in Three Billboards, there must be a TV Trope along the lines of ‘credulity straining conversion’ ? (spoiler: there isn’t!)
I don’t mind the writers jettisoning the old Daryl, as he was a horrible stereotype and an annoying liability, but this one is like a plant-looking item that gives off a faint smell of plastic.
It’s an attempt to make Daryl more like a human being and less of a trope, alright, but they didn’t pull it off and one unintended consequence is it coming off a bit condescending, too: ‘look! even rednecks can be decent people, if given some love and a second chance!’
