As far as I can see, barring further revelations, the allegations about him amount to “He’s a really shitty boss”, and it’s like, that sucks and I feel for the people who had to deal with that, but I’ve literally had to work for shittier people than that (based on the worst described incidents), and I suspect perhaps the majority of people have. It’s not great and I’m glad he’s facing some consequences unlike 99.999% of these guys but it seems like a bit of a different issue to the pile of racists, misogynists, transphobes, sex abusers and so on out there. I guess the issue is that it’s not representative of some political agenda nor harm directed at a specific class of being, it’s just pretty bog-standard shitty boss behaviour.
But yes, being on Sky Atlantic means the only way to access it short of paying for Sky (which is hilariously expensive) means NowTV, which is definitely the shittiest streaming service I’m aware of existing, by a very large margin. Not only is it overpriced at the base price, for the content, but to get it in normal HD - not 4K, AFAIK that’s not available at all - just normal HD, you need to pay nearly 30% more than that base price (£12.99 total), which is more than 4-screen 4K Netflix, with about 1/100th the content.
And then you have to deal with all the stupid bullshit too - like, they say “Watch Anywhere”, but as the internet puts it “So that was a fucking lie”. On PC, for example, in reality, they use a bizarre and totally unnecessary player (not your browser, not a Windows 10 app, a weird ass player), that’s like something from 10+ years ago, and crashes all the time, and sometimes just fails to work (seen this across three different PCs), and consistently doesn’t play the next episode, even if you let it count the “next episode” timer down or even click on “next episode”! And sometimes you get SD quality for no apparent reason (it’s not even using HDCP or something). And sometimes it just crashes so hard you have to restart the PC to get it working. It’s literally like using something from between about 1998 and 2004. IIRC it still uses Silverlight, an obsolete technology that Microsoft finally totally shitcanned and dropped all support for in 2019 (and which has been out of favour since 2009).
So you try on your laptop, only it doesn’t like certain laptops, and with Chromebooks, like mine, it’s completely random. There’s literally no reason it shouldn’t work, either as an Android app, or playing in the browser, but right now, the cunts who run NowTV have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that neither will work, despite the fact that the app worked fine a few months ago, and if you sideload the app (which I’m not competent enough to do), it does work - you’re just banned from downloading or updating the app the proper way, which is intentional decision made by NowTV, note, not an automatic Google thing. Oh and as a bonus as well as being limited to three streams at once (fine, I guess), you can only access it on six devices, which you have to manage, and you can only remove a device once a month, just another shitty restriction for no reason.
It’s a ton of money for an incredibly incompetently-run, low-quality, low-content service. It is entirely reliant on Sky effectively “kidnapping” shows and holding them hostage.
Plus it’s so expensive, that if you only want to watch one show, you might literally be better off buying it on Amazon once that season has finished.
