After seeing it on iPlayer for years, and feeling the need for some lightweight sitcom-y comedy, I tried Not Going Out.
First season was only 6 episodes so that didn’t take too long.
Wasn’t sure at first, particularly with the first episode having some rather racist stuff in it.(*) It got better as it went on, although I’m not sure it ever got particularly great.
Lee Mack’s one liners are great in panel shows like 8OO10C Does Coundown, but the constant stream of them here just tends to get a bit wearing and seem a lot less funny. There are a few of LOL moments though.
Mainly I liked the Kate character, although I wonder if she has that ‘American on BBC show, but I’ve never actually heard an american talk like that’ accent. She seems to get replaced in Season 2 though, which kinda made me lose interest.
(*) Given it was made around 2006, I’m kinda surprised. I’m also a bit surprised it hasn’t been cancelled all to hell, given that milder older stuff seems to have been getting in trouble recently.
