Amphibia’s latest episode hit me right in the feels, how dare you cartoon make me feel something!?
Star Trek Lower Decks seems to be slowly getting better, it still does quite a lot of trek meta humor but it’s slowly putting it to the side, or at least that’s what I hope. At least it doesn’t pretend to be this groundbreaking new Trek that then becomes yet another Terminator remake.
Beast Wars in the end is sort of blessed and cursed by its animation, cursed because it’s ugly and unintentionally goofy to the point that the intentionally goofy moments stand out more, blessed because the cost of creating new character models apparently kept Hasbro from the interference that often turned the G1 cartoon into nonsense and broke Bob Budiansky (I’m reading the G1 comic lately and you can almost pinpoint the moment Budiansky stopped giving a crap and just started writing the first thing that came to his mind no matter how silly or out of place it was, sometimes it’s enjoyable sometimes it’s just kind of boring, so many characters have been killed by the memetic cosmically powered Starscream with barely a spoken line to their name because Hasbro wanted newer toys to get the spotlight).
In the G1 cartoon it was usually two or three characters that stood out while others just came and went relying mostly on over the top quirks or spotlight episodes, here for now most characters can actually breathe and be characters rather than getting namechecked every once in a while to make sure kids got the name so they could beg their parents to have it added to their set.
I enjoyed the episodes I watched (my brother was a fan so I watched a bunch of episodes over the years) but never got into the whole series, it seemed to me like an excuse for witty banter and quirky townspeople being quirky. I mostly kept away because the drama there is seemed mainly based on the protagonists making stupid decisions just for the sake of drama.
