I’ve kind of started watching Almost Human, the “A Vampire, a Ghost and a Werewolf walk into a bar” show that was on the BBC a few years ago.
I remember being interested about 5 years ago and checking out the pilot and thinking it was ok, but a bit flawed. Then I found out that the real series replaced most of the actors and never really got any further.
Due to being unable to do anything due to the ridiculous heat, and with nothing else that appealed at that instant, I started watching it from the start.
Ehh. It’s ok, but it’s kind of hard going. While it has a few moments of comedy, it also plays it straight with a lot of the darker stuff, so it ends up being somewhat lacking in fun.
It’s not quite horror enough to be horror, not exciting enough to be adventure, not funny enough to be comedy, etc… It’s nice at times to see a fantasy show set in the more familiar setting of Bristol, rather than somewhere like Sunnydale, California… but that British reveling in working class misery combined with grimy horror sure ends up being a bit depressing. It needs a few whedonesque quips or something.
Which reminds me, Charmed is getting a reboot already? Given that Charmed was always a 3rd rate Buffy Knockoff (though not without its charms (geddit?)), i guess this means we can’t be long from the foretold Buffy reboot that will be a sign of the end times.
