I tried it and things do look a little flat compared to TAA, but it’s okay, and it seems to make the game run a fair bit better too, which surprises me some (I thought TAA was sort of a cheap, GPU-wise, way to make things look better, but maybe it’s not that cheap). The game is still choppy, but far more playable. I can mostly hit what I aim at now, when they don’t teleport (that still happens but much less), and it may be possible to actually participate in events.
Anyway, Fallout 76 gameplay: Up to level 26 now. Leveling is still slow, but I’ve put 12 points in intelligence, so I do get decent amount of XP now.
Just got my first power armor, although I’m still missing a left arm. Don’t yet know how much I’ll use it, but the extra carry weight alone is certainly handy. Fusion cores could be a problem. Not sure yet.
My mainstays in early FO4, the automatic pipe rifle and the Thompson submachine gun, seem to be weird in FO76; far lower, and sort of uneven, fire rate, so that’s not really any good. I do have a 10mm submachine gun, but it’s not that powerful. And I can’t find any auto mods for my 5.56 rifle. So I’m in a sort of iffy place right now.
Also, in FO4 you can use the weapons you find, but in FO76 there’s a weird level lock, so I have stuff I can’t use. You can find a level 45 locked sniper rifle, and then later find exactly the same type for level 25, which is weird, and I’m worried lower level weapons are stuck doing less damage than higher level weapons of the same type. I have a nice legendary pump shotgun that heals me on every hit, but it’s level 10 or so, so maybe I can’t keep using it. I don’t like that.
Communication still sucks in the game, but sometimes it sort of works out anyway. I was attacking a raider base when a high level guy in power armor came by and kept shutting the door I was shooting out of, and I thought maybe he was trolling, but it didn’t really seem that way. Turned out these particular raiders didn’t die, they just got downed for a bit and then healed up. I think he was trying to tell me that it was pointless to attack them.
I also don’t get enemy scaling. Most enemies appear at my level, but then there’s suddenly a bunch of level 40s, sometimes mixed in with those of my level. I’m not sure what that’s supposed to signify. Or how to predict where it’ll happen.
The C.A.M.P. camps are really rather nice, actually. And there’s a bunch of things from them I really wish they’d put in FO4.
There’s also a shelter thing, which is an underground place you can have, with a door in your C.A.M.P. Not entirely certain what the idea is, but I think maybe it’s just a place where people can build (apparently there’s special building rules down there, so you can put things in midair and such). That seems sort of nice.
