I’d be fascinated to know if the decision to make pick such a stunningly boring-looking/concepted protagonist has at all it impacted the success of the game (negatively or positively). I mean, it’s been successful, but “Dark Souls + Star Wars” is a no-brainer. They had to go very far out of their way to pick someone so dull - human, male, young, looks like Luke except not as handsome and somehow more bland (and more bland than the slightly creepy-looking actor he’s based on).
I get that once they picked the actor, the look might have been natural enough, but why pick that actor (the Joker in the Gotham TV show)? Literally you change any one of the parameters (human, male, young) and you get a more interesting character, and one who is going to feel less played-out and like merely a lesser version of Luke.
Personally I know it literally is why I haven’t bought the game. I’ve been about to a number of times, and every time I see a picture of the protagonist and I’m like “Ugh Blandy McRedhead” and don’t buy it. I have difficulty picturing someone who would be more likely to buy the game because of him.
