Sometimes I get terrible ideas. One of them is to start a new Warframe account and start from scratch. Most of the time I manage to not do it, but this time I … didn’t.
It’s the second ironman account I’ve started (last time was about a year ago and I think I got up to MR 10 or so before I had to give up because running two accounts just takes more time than there is in a day).
The challenge is to do everything solo, not buy platinum, and to not buy anything from other people (not that I do that anyway, because I hate WF’s trading system. Or lack of one). And no trading between your accounts either because that gets you banned (and it’d feel like cheating anyway).
It’s a good reminder of what new players go through. Everything is hard because you have no good weapons, you only have one frame, you have no good mods (and getting better ones requires both luck and far better gear than you have) and you don’t have resources to really upgrade anything (and many of the resources you need are from planets to you don’t have access to yet either). And it takes forever to do anything too because you don’t have boosters or even a Smeeta (a cat pet that sometimes gives you a buff that doubles XP and resource gain).
It took around 70 missions to max my starting warframe. On my main account it takes 3 to 10 missions (depending on frame and less if I do coop). Weapons take forever to max too, and since the affinity you gain from maxing frames and weapons is directly related to your mastery rank, and a lot of stuff is locked behind mastery rank requirements (better weapons, for one thing), it takes ages to get anywhere.
Also, since my last ironman account, we got Nightwave, which is apparently something similar to what is called a battlepass in other games (?). Daily and weekly challenges that you do to get points to rank up your Nightwave standing and each rank gives a reward.
Some of the rewards are slots for weapon and frames, which you normally have to buy for platinum, so that’s good, but you also need them for one specific resource that can now only be gained from the NW system, and since I can’t do most of the challenges yet, I suspect that will be quite the roadblock (in the past you could get it by doing some event like missions).
It feels like more of a slog now than it did last time, in any case. And I haven’t even started on developing my solo clan yet (several frames and weapons can only be gotten from clan research, which takes a lot of time and resources) or anything.
Still, I think there’s more a feeling of accomplishment to it than playing my old account. But possibly not enough to make me keep going for all that long. Not sure yet.
