More AC: Odyssey.
I think my main problem with it so far is actually that it’s an Assassin’s Creed game. Suddenly getting yanked back to modern times isn’t doing immersion any favours, and that whole second interlude was, I assume, fan service because it certainly didn’t explain anything, just references to a bunch of people I’ve never heard about.
I would have been fine with just trundling around Greece as Kassandra.
Other than that, I’m having a pretty good time. Greece is very pretty (never been there, but my aunt, who’s gone there every year for a very long time and also had a house there, was very impressed when she saw the game), and it’s pretty impressive how much of it you can see at once too. Not a bad engine (runs well on my ancient i5).
I have no idea how geographically correct it is, but being able to recognize the terrain the Spartans fought on in the movie 300 was quite pleasant (of course, if the game just took the terrain from the movie, it’s a bit unfortunate, so I’m hoping it’s the actual terrain. If it’s even been established with certainty where they fought).
Lots of other nice, and hopefully fairly accurate things around.
Got pretty surprised when I ended up with a ship (I hadn’t expected something like that) and those parts are quite fun too.
And movement is, mostly, a joy. Wall climbing and all the little movements she makes (skipping, overbalancing, etc.) is pretty convincing. Knowing you can go in any direction because you can just climb up mountains is very nice too.
Main annoyance is that you can’t drop down if you hanging from something, even if there’s only 20cm to the ground, but maybe I just haven’t figured out how. Seems an odd thing to leave out, at least.
The dialogue system is pretty wonky, though no more so than most other games of the type; unless an option is marked so you know it leads to a fight or sex, it’s pretty difficult to predict what will happen. Sometimes choosing one option removes all the ones you first had and other times it doesn’t and it’s not clear why.
I have no idea how much things can branch out because I don’t really get a feel for whether I chose the ‘good’ or ‘bad’ option, if there even are such branches.
And I have no idea how I’ll ever get to level 50. I’m 15 now and that’s taken about 22 hours.
