A cursory glance at Destiny 2 turned into a 7 hour session. I don’t know if I like it.
I like many of the parts, but … it feels kind of lifeless? It’s very pretty and everything, but it’s sort of like the dialogues from the NPCs and such; sort of flat (not so much delivery flat as “I’ve heard this eight hundred times before” flat) or shallow, perhaps.
Also, it’s very confusing. The mechanics are, possibly, somewhat slightly less confusing than Warframe’s were at first (that’s not exactly praise), although there’s a lot of meaningless words in there that probably will eventually start to make some sense. Possibly.
And the random weapons and gear don’t help (I got two exotics (I think?) with the same name and while they are the same weapon type, they’re very different).
All sorts of stuff happening that I have no idea what to make of (sometimes there are flags standing in what seems to be random places and the prompt says “rally” when I get close. I don’t know whether that’s for when my morale gets low or if it’s some sort of dirt race starting point or what. For example).
Apparently I hit level 20 after three or four hours. I don’t know what that means.
The universe is … I don’t know why I’m there or what everybody is doing, and, unlike most games, I’m not really all that interested in finding out. Which is strange. I kind of hope to get curious at some point, it might be that it’s all a bit too confusing right now to sort out. Lots of quests and ‘quests’, but I can’t tell if there’s any order I should do them in, nor whether that matters for lore or … anything.
But the shooting is nice (the ammo system can be rather confusing, though; why can I only pick up 7 spare rounds for a shotgun? For example). Abilities are pretty limited, and kind of weird, but they seem to work (Only tried the Titan so far. I think that’s what it’s called…).
I think I’ve died five times so far. Twice to my own grenade launcher, once to a boss-ish thingy somewhere, and twice because I tried to revive someone who got downed by some sort of enemy spawn bubble, and I got downed by it too.
FOV is weird. I set it to max, but some weapons seem absolutely huge still.
oh, and nobody uses chat anywhere at all as far as I can tell. That seems a bit strange too. Though, I noticed the profanity filter is on by default, so maybe all the chat just gets filtered out.
