Had never heard of them. Googled them and never want to hear them again. I dunno, it’s tempting to say it’s just harmless, ridiculously overproduced pop music for little girls, but I dunno. It’s not like mainstream pop hasn’t always had plenty of bland crap, but (and I’m talking everything, not just the emergence of Kpop) it does seem to have been getting gradually more and more smeared into an indistinct, impersonal, slightly sinister mess. It’s all just soothing sounds and bright colours, and it’s not just that I don’t like it (I don’t like most stuff and I don’t mind), but it’s sort of anxiety-inducing.
Anyway, I’m trying to re-learn this, which is taking a lot more time and effort than I thought. I am become old and lazy, and haven’t practiced nearly as much as I ought to lately.
It’s the sort of modern classical music where I completely understand if people don’t find it enjoyable to listen to, but it’s so goddamn fun to play.
Also considering trying to arrange this for one instrument. I’m far from an expert on American folk music, but I just love how “jumpy” and playful with simple ideas a lot of it is. I can sort of see it being possible to cram most of those notes into one guitar part, but it’s probably doomed to failure, or just be way, way too difficult to play.
