Brand New has suddenly dropped their first album since 2009 today. It’s self produced, only available from their production company website. I haven’t listened to the new one (though I’ve purchased it), but Brand New have been on continuous rotation in whatever I’m listening to for about 15 years now, so…

“Bizarre and random” are the adjectives that come to mind, with butt drums and rainbow light beam breasts. It’s one of those music videos where I’m completely unable to connect the music to the imagery they’re presenting.

Some years after Cyclefly unfortunately disbanded after two great albums, frontman Declan O’Shea and bassist Christian Montagne formed a new, slightly less rock and more melody driven band called MAKO. They released a pretty decent album in 2010 called ‘Living On Air’ which I still listen to every now and then, but never quite hooked me the same way Cyclefly did.

Anyway, new album coming out soon apparently. A video for the first single was filmed two years against a backdrop of Brazilian street art.

I tried listening to the Indie playlist on spotify, and nothing on it was what i’d call indie.
Then I tried the top 40 lists, and recognized maybe 1-2 artists on each.

Is this because streaming means that there’s a massive turnover in new bands and one-off popular songs, or is this because I’m getting old?

Are we going to get another “best songs/albums of the year” thread, cos that’s always really great for finding good new stuff?
