Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying 1440 is a bad idea: what it is, however, is a computer-only resolution, and one that will likely be quickly forgotten, soon as 4k is popularized.
It does have its place in computer land, because 1080p is too little pixels, and 4k is too many for certain panel sizes, you want a 4k screen to generally be above a minimum. And powering 4k is a heftier bill than most gamers are willing to foot, right now.
Ultrawide is great for desktop work, but I’m not sold on it as a general-purpose gaming solution. I’m sure it’s pretty cool in certain games, sims for sure; but like I said, too many games are wedded to 16:9 and do not support other aspect ratios very well or at all, which sucks.
Technically, of course, you can always set your graphics card to output a 16:9 image even on an ultra-wide monitor, but what good is ultra-wide if you’re doing that with most games?
