Exactly, entirely counter to what Dreamlord was saying, no politician is calling anyone racist. Even the incredibly fucking insane racist ones. All politicians on the left or remain side are saying things like “people have legitimate concerns” over and over again so they look like a robot in a suit working in a call centre. Calling some of these idiots fucking racists for once might actually hammer the point home.
On Project Fear:
I am fairly sure this doesn’t exist. It’s some total fabrication invented by right wing newspapers and the SNP. What’s an actual argument for the status quo (which remain is), other than well changing the status quo will make things worse. We’re not voting between change of kind A or change of kind B, we’re voting for more of the same or change. It’s nigh impossible to turn the status quo into something hopeful of the future. The project fear line has mostly been trotted out by brexit campaigners (journalists and politicians) as it sounds like a good put down when they’re losing the argument. There is a long, long list now of people who think brexit will cause economic downturn, the IMF, OECD, independent economists, economists partly paid by EU research grants (e.g. all british academics), world leaders, the treasury, historians, the bank of England, business leaders etc. etc. etc.
It seems fairly likely there is going to be a downturn with brexit and it will fuck trade. The brexit response to that has been “i dispute those numbers” “on what grounds?” “They’re not very positive and part of project fear.” It’s like some insane conspiracy theory that just spouting emotional crap about positivity can out weigh rational argument. OK it can, but it’s getting really depressing. I’ve even heard Farage going on about a conspiracy, what amongst all the world leaders and all those independent bodies are in David Cameron’s pocket? Really? Also if there was a conspiracy that big you can bet Boris Johnson would be sucking up to it rather than fanning racism to become Tory leader.
They’re swivel eyed loonies.
Also on the random stat check about bureaucracy. The commission as mentioned acts like the Civil Service, the EU commission is around 23,000 in perspective the British Civil Service employs 439,000. Which is just Civil Servants, that’s not the NHS or the Police or anything like that. Though we do pay our civil servants worse.
EDIT: Also I’ve only lived in London for 7 years, but used to have family here so have been visiting quite a bit since the late 90s. Seems exactly the same except for the gentrification bollocks. People are as wonderfully surly as they always were. I fucking hate northerners turning up and trying to chat to people on buses. The pricks.
EDIT2: Further bullshit on the Project Fear thing. Cameron gave that speech about the EU being an important foundation of the pretty unprecedented 70 years of peace in Europe (depending on where you draw the edge). Which seems fairly uncontroversial. That somehow got transformed in the press to Cameron predicts World War 3 if we leave the EU… which isn’t vaguely close to what he said.
