Full disclosure: I’ve been a long-time fan of ADOM, got into talks with Thomas The Creator and am now working full time on content and marketing for Ultimate ADOM. If this is too much self-promotion, I apologize.
I do know there’s a few ADOM fans out here, though, and since we’re rearing up for the Kickstarter of the sequel, I figured it’s time to share some details. I know Thomas has been talking about JADE and ADOM II in the past years, but Ultimate ADOM is actually real. Well, it is already real, it’ll be more real past the Kickstarter. We’ll release the game anyway, regardless of the campaign’s outcome, but we want to improve on the scope.
UA picks up right where ADOM ends - specifically, some unknown hero managed to defeat/usurp the big bad evil guy. But something goes horribly wrong, as these things do and there’s a new reason for heroes, villains and mercenary souls to crawl into dungeons and kill monsters.
That’s the first new thing in Ultimate ADOM: Instead of being an unknown peasant, you’re already affiliated with one of the major factions, or strike out on your own. This not only determines your initial mission, but will also affect your abilities and story. Factions will interact with each other in UA, and you get to interfere there or not.
We’re also going to do cool things about grafting enemy body parts to yourself to turn into an abomination, animate walls to protect you from enemies (and open doorways in a rather mana-costly but clever manner) or the ability to switch bodies with a monster.
