A load of screenshots from a different odyssey, in this case of the Elite Dangerous: Odyssey alpha variety.
As it starts you with a new cmdr for the first part of the alpha and you don’t get access to a ship of your own for phase 1, I just set my binding to the default m&k combo. Unfortunately it means that some of the controls clash with the hi-res screenshot short cut, which kept bringing up the quick options dial in the lower left of the screen. I shan’t bother with the his res ones again, as I only have to save them down to jpgs anyway. There is a camera mode of course, but it doesn’t pause the game and when you’re hanging around on a planet surface freezing your nuts off, you need to get in doors fast. Well you do when all you have is your basic flight suit which you start in. Just bought myself a better suit, so hopefully will be able to last outside longer and be able to go off for walks on some of these planets.
First phase of the alpha is restricted to one system right now, with most moons being ice balls. No player owned ships, that’s phase 2, so you have to use the new taxi services, but they can only take you to stations and settlements right now. Can’t wait till we can take off in our own ships and set down where ever we like.
Anyway folks, brace yourselves for a small flood of shots.
The new rejigged system map. Planets and stations you can walk on have that new icon and planets with atmospheres have that blue glow around them. How that’s going to look in ships with the landable planets icon as well I don’t know; a bit crowded I guess.
I’m just doing some fetch missions right now to get a few creds in to buy some equipment before I try any combat missions. There’s no icons telling you where your mission pickup is when you land. You have to head into one of the buildings and find a terminal first.
On the terminals you can browse through the contents of buildings and rooms you have security clearance to. Where you’ll find your mission target and be able to set a waypoint for it.
There’s also a staff list. Not sure what that’s used for yet, but I’d guess assassination missions or finding the right npc’s with the security clearance you need to steal off them etc.
You can loot containers and cupboards, but if the stuff isn’t abandoned, it’s stealing. Guards outside will periodically stop you for a security scan and if you run they’ll shoot. I suspect in typical Elite fashion, they’ll just blast you if you have stolen goods on you too. “You’ve stolen a packet of screws! DIE SCUM!”.
