This was going to be a post about Tenebrae but it’s yet another thing that I couldn’t get working. What has become of Fileplanet has a download for that if you’re interested. Tenebrae really blew people’s socks off at the time, many a hack writer craving for page hits claimed that it was the way that Quake was meant to be played but I couldn’t get a good enough framerate to fully enjoy it. It’s since been surpassed by Darkplaces and FTEQW which offer more graphics options and better user experiences.
The following screenshots were taken in the latter with inkub0’s RTLights which really do thicken the atmosphere especially if you’re used to those ancient .lits that have been around since source ports first added coloured lighting to the game.
Gee I don’t know, why do they call the place “Gloom Keep”?
The green really makes this look like a stage from Mortal Kombat 2
can’t escape blue and orange.
The best part about realtime lighting is that you can see the monsters coming.
One of the graphical fancies is this visual warp on teleporting entities.
Okay so FTE has a faux Tenebrae
mod so I guess you can still enjoy it in a way.
