I have finished Avencast last week and have more screenshots to offer. I also have finally finished off Chapter 7 of Drakensang and have moved on to Murolosch, which is probably the most visually appealing place I have visited in the game so far.
I thought it was a nice touch how locations in the Academy are marked with symbols. To the right the symbol of the Wing of the Soul Mages and to the left the symbol indicates the way to the Planetarium.
Some spell effects:
Flamethrower-like spell that is diverted by a sandstorm. Roots the player in place though, so I didn’t find any use for it.
Was my main spell towards the later stages. It’s not exactly easy to use efficiently (a lot of the orbs usually don’t hit anything), but it’s quite cheap and does still do enough damage.
Relatively long casting animation, but good range and ridiculous damage. Mostly useful against slower enemies, since it lasts a few seconds.
A nova-like spell that can knock down most enemies, but not all of them. Its early versions were somewhat useful, because my other main spell was just as expensive to cast and it was nice for keeping people away from me.
Shockwave-like spell. It was my main spell for most of the first half. Well this one as well as the two other earlier versions. Not bad, but so expensive that the mana pool gets depleted by just casting it four times or so. To the right is my pet - a Crystal Sea Horse. Just tough enough and can cast a Frost Nova which is very nice for crowd control.
And from Drakensang…
Spider Caves beneath Grimtooth Castle…
…and some light puzzling farther up.
Somewhere outside Tallon.
The Peraine-temple in Tallon.
The developers certainly liked their godrays, but hey, it works. In my opinion at least.
On top of an abandoned dwarven tower.
And some from Murolosch to finish off.
