We do it pretty regularly these days. Itâs called 301ing.
You take an old article and update it, but to bump it back to the top of the site, you need to change the date. That means changing the date in the URL. The best-practice way to do this is to create a new article, make the updates there, then 301-redirect the old URL to the new one.
We do it in the Best Games lists, the guides, a lot of the hardware round-ups, and the Black Friday/Prime Day coverage. This has been true for a couple of years now. (Most other websites do the same thing.) Eurogamer recently got the ability to transfer comments in order to maintain them between posts, but we donât have that, because Wordpress is a leaky old boat and makes those things harder.
Hopefully this explains that there was no panic to delete comments or anything.
