I’m getting the same thing, although more on the individual article pages than on the main page, loops and loops of contacting, connecting, downloading…contacting, etc. I don’t want to turn ads off but it’s becoming unusable. Any tips, anyone?
Opera has a turbo mode which neuters site takeover scripts by translating the page into a more minimal form on a server. Still lets you keep ads on.
So just 70s then?
Opera is Chrome with icing these days, but why would anyone route their traffic through a third party server they’re not paying for (remember the rule), when ads can be both white and black listed in uBlock Origin?
If these new features like the podcast and 10 new steam games are a result of the takeover freeing up the team’s time, then I welcome our new corporate overlords.
Just a quick one to say, I do love what what you RPS folks do. Been reading you for years.
And I loved the old april fool site changes etc too. (appreciate they are a lot of work to do, so not surprised they are infrequent, or perhaps even never to return.)
I do appreciate the style/tone of your writeups, reviews and so forth.
have you guys thought about doing patreon
The RSS feed seems to have either died or been locked away behind the subscriber paywall. Is this intentional?
Edit: If it isn’t intentional, it may be something up with feedburner and the way the links are setup. Navigating from the RSS feed page (which produces the Subcribe splash page for me) to the forums tries to read the forums as a Feedburner thread. Which seems odd as well. Both problems exist across all browsers with and without extensions enabled so it’s not happening on the front end.
Yay, it works now.
I don’t know it if will continue to be a thing this time, but I listened to an episode of the Electronic Wireless Show (RPS podcast) and it actually sounded kinda organized and professional.
Should we have a sticky thread / forum / something for it? Or do we already have one hidden somewhere?
Just a thought.
I can’t log on RPS site.
After enering username and pass it takes me to the profile settings, but when I go back to main site I’m still not logged.
EDIT: Eh, finally. Still, very frustrating experience.
after logging in, I always do a SHIFT+f5, because your browser still looks at an non-updated webpage, that most of the time fixes the problem.
The RSS feed recently started including only the first paragraph or so. That’s really not great. I’m a supporter and would not mind if a “full” RSS feed were locked behind supporter status, but it’s really useful for me to have the full article in my feed reader so I can read it at leisure even if i’m offline, and without engaging in the awful experience that is, even today, a web browser on a phone.
Just have one question and couldnt find an answer (may have overseen it). The account for the forum isn’t the same as for the page, or is it?
And with the start of rockpapershotgun.de i hope you wont enforce native germans (which include myself) to go the german side. I’m here cause i like the style and the humour of your articles and hope you will stick to it also in german and dont try to copy the awful german game pages that are out there ^^
That is indeed the case.
Sorry to hear that Pip’s leaving
I never really cared much about the e-sports/dota side of her coverage, but I liked all the weird little games that she discovered.
Which post is that in? I’m not seeing any obvious one in the reader.
It was mentioned in the latest podcast, and also in the article for that.
She’s going to be deputy editor at PC Gamer, if I remember correctly.
Thanks for clearing that up, and best of luck to Pip in her new adventures o/
They should probably do a post about it (if they haven’t already) because I guess a lot of people would have missed the news on the podcast. Although I guess she’s still there so maybe they just haven’t gotten around to it.
I never got over the fact that Jim left without saying goodbye…
Some simply don’t like goodbyes.
