It may not be very likely in this case, however, there’s been at least a year during which the winner was also featured previously in the calendar, and that was 2014, if memory serves. Among the differences, 2014 was a category based calendar.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dead Cells left out of the calendar entirely, TBH. I would have it for sure included in my 2017 list.
Actually, it was part of my selection when putting together a submission for the guessing game, until I realized that it would have been made of games that I thought were worthy, not games that I think they would think worthy, and that I greatly prefer reading other people’s lists rather than making mine.
But I digress - I am aware Dead Cells has been reworked not insignificantly since last time I played it, and having read about some, not all, of the changes, there were some things I was not entirely sure I liked, at least the sound of them on paper. Not it matters a lot, anyway:
I cannot quite explain why, just a feeling I have, that the team may have got cold feet for it.
A few hours ago I made myself chuckle, when the thought popped in my mind ‘what if they picked Hidden Folks as a GOTY’. I don’t think that will materialize, but it was fun to imagine.
Now I don’t remember exactly who wrote them, my recollection could be completely inaccurate, and I don’t want to do another Caveblazers anyway, I do, however, have this hazy memory of some truly unflattering remarks about RiME. #mostlikelywrong so don’t mind me.
