There is a certain cuteness in the relationship between the kid and the sidekick-slash-guide fox.
However, and as far as I could see, since you mention friendliness, it’s not “family friendly” in the way I often associate with the expression, i.e. a colorful, largely positive and/or humorous experience.
The recollection it left behind with me, is that of a dark, hostile world, dominated by unrelenting bad weather, and permeated by a sense of loss, sadness and nostalgia.
I think there might light at the end of the tunnel, though?
The platforming, being clunky and frustrating, kept me from finishing it. Also, I experienced a technical issue that prevented the videos from playing correctly.
But, kids process things differently from adults, and playing with parent supervision falls into a different bucket.
