I clicked the wrong bit of the poll and it registered as a vote… your whole data source is now corrupted. abort.
I find it interesting that you’re equating Humble with ‘12 bucks a month’, because personally there’s zero chance I’m going to ever go for their monthly bundles, but I still pay close attention to their other ones. (even if not that many appeal).
GIveaways are a good way to get me to become a member of your store/app, but I’m not sure they actually translate into any puchases or changing of buying/playing habits for me. (Shh though!).
It probably did work once back in the early days of gog.
I have free games on origin, uplay, humble, gog, twitch, blizzard, etc… and I’ll probably grab subnautica off epic… but I keep forgetting that I have them, and I don’t even have half the clients installed at the moment. (humble is a bit different as it gives steam keys).
It’s not that I’m ideologically opposed to other platforms, or a huge steam supporter, it’s just ‘out of sight out of mind’.
I tried using HLTB as a way to track my games cross-store, but I forgot to add some new games and now it’s totally out of date. I know there are a couple of other solutions/apps, but that’s just adding another layer. I tried adding links for the non-steam games in steam, but the way steam handles those is rubbish.
So giveaways on non-steam key platforms tend to be somewhat irrelevant in the end.
Anyway, I’m not sure freebie giveaways on the other platforms will much impact my non-monthly humble buying, with the exception of if i decide not to buy a bundle because I was already given a free game on a tier.
I do wonder if giving free games is going to combine with the massive number of games to make things even more unsustainable for devs though…
