Even after a truly embarassing amount of time spent on this game, I still haven’t managed to get bored. I put down my summon sign in various DLC areas and had some jolly cooperation with a bunch of people, the last of whom I guided all the way from the fourth bonfire to the final boss. This was a new player and she let all the cutscenes play out entirely, and she probably didn’t even realise that she was about to start the boss battle. And despite having basically no estus, I jumped in there and we obliterated the boss. I only needed to use a Divine Blessing in the middle when my flask ran dry, and that was enough to get us to the end. We were probably way overleveled but taking out the boss in one try after an arduous journey through the area is still very impressive, I should think.
I was playing my very first character, a dex-hybrid pyromancer, who has gone through at least six redesigns while I tried to figure out which one-handed dex weapon combined best with my pyromancies. After switching from curved swords to katanas to curved greatswords I ended up where I always do, with a poise-heavy hard hitter. I used the less powerful Carthus Curved Greatsword and Old Wolf Sword until now, but today I respecced for the Exile Greatsword, the heavyweight champion of curved greatswords. Surprisingly, infusing it Sharp gives it significantly more damage than Refined! For a lot of weapons, the Refined infusion beats out Sharp and Heavy easily, no matter what your STR and DEX are. I think it’s a balance problem.
Now I’ve sacrificed a lot of my poise to be able to wield the Exile, and it hits so hard! I took out an invader with one Spin Slash. It took two normal attacks to kill another invader who put too few points into VIG. I have twelve points invested in INT and FTH and I don’t think I even need them!
It seems unlikely I’ll ever stop playing this.
Oh, I read about this, it was a mistranslation. They said they both enjoy each other’s work, not that they are working together on something.
