I mean, for Cyberpunk to get on, tons of staff would need to play it enough to really judge it by the time it can knock a pick off. Not saying that won’t happen, but it strikes me as the sort of meaty game that you can’t play a few hours of and judge its greatness.
Honestly, I really dislike this system. It forces any game released in December to compete for an ever-shrinking number of slots, depending how late its released, if staff even have time to play it at all.
I think a much better system is to either a) have your end-of-year awards in January, or b) consider the eligible period to be December 2019 - November 2020, which is what I’ve always assumed in my mind even though they’ve only done that once.
Also: 16 out of 17 entrants got Half-Life Alyx, which surprised me, since it seemd pretty clear that Graham was the only one who played it and would have to use a good chunk of his points to get it to appear. I mean, I thought he would and he did, but it was a gamble.
