Thanks to everyone who took part this year, and to Aerothorn for organising it again. I always enjoy looking at people’s guesses.
I saw some people mention that the number of correct guesses this year was up on previous years. From my perspective, that’s a good thing - we’re doing something wrong if people aren’t sure what games we like. I imagine Can’t Stop Playing helps, alongside things we’ve added over the years such as the mid-year ‘best so far’ list and the Bestest Best badge.
I normally offer a few stats on the voting process, so here they are.
Outer Wilds was a clear winner this year, with 4 people voting for it for a total of 8 points. Last year was a bit of a bun fight between Obra Dinn and Into The Breach, with tactical voting necessary to separate the two, but Wilds was always out in front.
Second place was tied between Disco Elysium, Control and Planet Zoo. They all received 6 points from 3 voters.
Third place was also tied between Ape Out, Wilmot’s Warehouse and Eliza, all of which received 5 points.
At the other end of the table, Six Ages, QT and Knights & Bikes all had 3 points, which was the lowest number of points necessary to get onto the list this year. We had to omit those three games after a brief discussion about them and the other games with 3 points, which were It’s Winter, They Are Billions, Untitled Goose Game and Mutazione.
Other games that received votes but did not make the list were: Baba Is You, What The Golf, Katana Zero, Snakeybus, Wildermyth. Ghoastus tried to cast a vote for Imperator: Rome but he’s not full-time staff and so his vote was not valid.
A heck of a good year for games, I think. But then, I feel that way when I gaze upon the calendar list at the end of every year.
Thanks for reading, and see you in 2020.
