Optionally. Sure, for those who want this.
Having this be a thing that isn’t optional would just be incredibly blinkered. I can not overstate this.
Vast chunks of the gaming audience are already pinched for gaming time. I have no need for a space game that forces me into a solitaire game (or god help me a repair game for parts degrading at speeds that would imply an Entropy rate to beggar the imagination!) for 10 minutes while on the way from the Wolf System to Tau Ceti with nothing but the truly empty interstellar void slowly passing “outside”.
These sorts of systems are rarely well received and often are the thing which holds games back from being actually enjoyable for a good size audience.
Death Stranding is a good example of “Realism systems” let off the chain to appease a designers vision without considering that the bulk of the systems add nothing but tedium and irritation to the game loops.
Even with “fully realized” ship environments like say Mass Effect, having a system jump take 10 damn minutes while you wander idly around the fully rendered ship and talk to the fully rendered crew or do some sort of odd maintenance mini-games would be a massive DOWNGRADE to the game loop experience almost instantly.
