Just read the beginning of the https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/i-love-the-tiny-lands-in-tiny-lands , but not being a supporter didn’t get beyond the initial sentences. Not complaining about that - it’s what I would expect.
For the first time the possible content of a Supporter article made me wonder about the cost of being a supporter. Depending on the price it might be justifiable for just this one article or one a month, whatever.
Clicked the “See more information” pink button in the purple supporter dialog and was taken to the “Join the Rock Paper Shotgun supporter program” page.
That page only talked about purchasing a subscription via Humble Bundle but no indication of how to do that - no hints/links to follow. Searching the Humble Bundle site didn’t unearth anything helpful.
Then I thought to view from a device that had allowed all cookies in the policy (or rather not rejected some) and guess what? I could see a form that stated price and an email address input an options to choose payment method.
So, as someone rejecting advertising cookies it was not obvious how to sign up for a subscription that would provide an “Ad-free experience!” - not even a hint to say “Wanting to sign up as a supporter then enable cookies”, just the common generic “To see this content please enable targeting cookies” which is common on RPS pages and does not suggest that it would help with signing up for a Supporter subscription.
All this was enough for me to re-evaluate the likely value of the article content and decide it would probably be worth less than the effort already spent.
As a side note, the purchase section of the page doesn’t actually state that Humble Bundle is where you will be purchasing from, just the “How to activate your subscription” section that follows. Perhaps they should be swapped around.
