RSS Feed and Guide spam

Hiya

I just subscribed again in time for GUIDESPAM!

One thing I preferred about RPS over say Eurogamer (yeah I know!) was that i didn’t have to skip a bunch of

HOW TO WIN THE BEST MOUNT IN …
HOW TO MAX YOUR ARMOUR IN…
HOW TO… (that’s enough HOW TO, Ed)

Could we have an RSS feed that I don’t have to ignore half of? If I want guides I will Google, they aren’t appropriate for a news feed because, well they aren’t news except in the way that NEWS! I JUST MADE A GUIDE!!!

A separate feed would be awesome sauce and I could just read the writing that I enjoy here.

This is probably not exactly what you’re after, but there are feeds for each category, for example this one for the news category:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/category/pc-game-news/feed/
There should be similar ones for Features, Reviews, etc… though I don’t know how they handle things that appear in more than one category… but you might be able to wrangle them to roll your own feed.

I’m not sure there’s a central list of feeds, but if you go into each catergory on the site and look at the source code and Ctrl-F for “feed” then you should be able to find them.
(or probably just add /feed/ to the end of the URL… that’d be easier… )

Maybe it’ll help as a stopgap at least.

Though, actually, I don’t know if Guides get included in News or Features or another one.

This is also relevant to my interests (cut down RSS feeds), so I found lists:

The tags are well organized, not much repetition. There are single games, series, devs, etc. Some are repeated, though.

Each page has the correct <link> tags, so you can just add it to your feed reader and it should find it correctly. Each has the main feed, the main comments feed and the page feed. Articles also have per-article comments feed.

Good info, thanks much. I can’t seem to find a way to exclude. It’s not practical to create a bunch of RSS feeds to include everything, but not guides. That would be a fair few feeds and prone to error, if a new tag appeared it would not show in my feed

Just thinking aloud, here, isn’t there some service that will ‘multiplex’ different RSS feeds into a custom one? Would you be able to exclude guides, that way?

Hi Alms, thanks much for taking the time to reply. An aggregator would have the same problem, what if I miss a tag, or a new tag is created. I would never know as I use RSS as my only route into RPS. I don’t visit the site directly as a matter of course.

No worries, but I hope the admins read this and realise that guides are really not cool or interesting to some. I would rather read opinions (in other words journalism)

Thank you for doing this, it’s exactly what I was searching for! For me it was the same problem, now I’m much more likely to actually look at any new RPS article.
