RPS Advent Calendar 2013 Guessing Game (It's Like Betting, But Without Rewards!)

With December rapidly approaching, I’d figure that regular readers may enjoy peering into the hivemind and discerning the game titles float within. Here’s how it works:

[]List the 24 games you think will appear on the Advent Calendar. Most correct guesses wins!
[]Order doesn’t matter, except for day 24 (the sort-of-not-really GOTY). This will be the tiebreaker.
[]Remember that, since the list starts being posted on December 1st, titles from December 2012 are eligible (I think - someone please confirm this an I’ll edit this post)
[]You can edit your post to change your picks any time during November. Afterwards, it’s locked down.

My hope is that they’ll be trying to make up for giving not-GOTY to that terrible mess that was Far Cry 3 instead of CK2, and will choose EU4 this time. Although I’ll be pretty pleased if it turns out to be Papers, Please. (ha. ha.)

I do wonder if Far Cry 3 benefited too much from being released right before the awards season. Do they regret their choice, or do Jim/John still rate it their top game of 2012? I guess we’ll never know.

I’m with Velko, personally, but I highly doubt that the hivemind agrees. It’s a really hard year to pick a GOTY, isn’t it? Well, for a PC crowd. GTA V and The Last of Us will probably dominate in the lands of Consolia. Out of the ones mentioned here, I’ll have to agree that Binfinite is a pretty safe bet. It was well received and has a wide appeal. The initial excitement may have cooled off a bit, though. Saints Row is possible, but I’m not sure if everyone shares John’s love for the series. Papers, Please is probably the most likely indie challenger.

Also, no one’s mentioned Metro: Last Light, right? I’d nominate that for a spot on the list. Not GOTY, though.

Shit, I just realised just how little gaming I’ve done this year, because there’s a grand total of seven games on all your lists so far combined that I’ve actually played (and all the others I haven’t even bought). So any list I make is bound to be incomplete. >_>

My guess is yes, it did, and no, we won’t. If the list was composed in April, Binfinite would have won all the awards in the world. New release hype is not to be trifled with.

Huh. I did a quick count and it seems I’ve bought eight of the games mentioned here, but only played three of them. Then again, I’ve played a whole bunch of EUIV.

Yeah, I’m not holding it as a favorite because of its stellar quality, but rather because of lack of competition. I’m not saying that 2013 has been a bad year, for me it’s been pretty good actually, but we’re looking for a game that several people with differing tastes have to agree is pretty damn good. I just don’t know which other game it’s more likely to be.

Heck, I’ve only played half the games on my list. Just go by RPS coverage, WITs, and your general sense of the personalities involved (and note the general drift towards first-person action/rpg things; Adam loves his Paradox games, John loves his graphic adventures, Jim loves his multiplayer manshoots, but it’s hard for them to convince the rest of the hivemind to champion those as the GOTY; so you get compromises like Minecraft, Skyrim, Far Cry 3).
