**The good news:
The bad news:
With the release today of Update 18, the much requested feature of “clan downsizing” will finally be implemented in the game. The timing couldn’t be better, since our Clan has been dealing with size-related woes since at least 6 months ago.
In case you aren’t aware of it, any Clan-based research has costs that scale with the (theoretical) size of the clan. Since we are a Mountain clan, whenever there’s a new research item introduced we face costs that are scaled up for 300 people. But the reality of our clan is that we have, at most, 60 individual players active during a whole week (10-15 daily). In the past, our active members have been able to deal with the different researchs in a reasonable amount of time, but Digital Extremes have been progressively increasing the costs and grind necessary with each successive addition, to the point that some research wouldn’t have been possible at all without the heroic efforts of some players that personally carried out an insane amount of grind to collect some very rare resources that were required on double or triple digits.
The straw that breaks the camel’s back, as the saying goes, is the introduction, last week, of a new rare resource, the Nitain Extract. Nicknamed Alertium, this Extract can only be obtained by participating in one of the alerts that pop up randomly during a day and reward it on completion. And, of course, this Extract is needed to both research and craft the latest warframe, Wukong, to the tune of 330 Alertium in total. As you can imagine, with about 15-20 active players daily it’s taken us a week to gather just the initial 150 Alertium to start the main blueprint research, and we still need 180 more to research the remaining parts (and on top of that, each player will need to collect 6 more Alertium individually to actually craft the warframe).
Some numbers, so you can see the full picture:
294 current members (of a maximum of 300).
— 131 of them have not logged in game for over 100 days or more.
In the last 30 days, only 100 individual players have been active.
— Of those, 47 have been active in the last 3 days.
In other words, almost 2/3 of the members can be fairly considered “inactive” at this point in time, but their presence has a notable negative impact on the rest of active members. As I said at the beginning, we have a solution at hand: downsizing the clan to the nearest smaller size, Storm, wich has a maximum capacity of 100 members. That won’t leave us much flexibility to accept new members, so as a long term solution I’d like to propose the creation of a sister clan (Rock Paper SkanaPrime?) with capacity for 30 or 100 members. We could even go farther with this idea, and create our own Alliance, so members of both clans could see and interact with each other in the alliance chat, and therefore there wouldn’t be any segregation between us.
That’s something to consider, but right now the important issue is the clan downsizing, so I’d like to hear what you think about it.
