I would react to that quote by giving it a standing bloody ovation.
It’s not about designers feeling a need to be “on the right side of history” or be “politically correct”. It’s about them doing what they think is right, and being confident about it being the right thing to do.
Arguments about political correctness have been going on for decades now, so I know I’m not going to change anyone’s opinion on that.
The UK tabloids seem to have achieved their long-dreamed-of post-political-correctness era, so people are now free to be racist again and we get Brexit. Yay.
But it seems to me that the argument against political correctness was that it was forcing people to do things they didn’t want to do.
But now we’re arguing that developers shouldn’t do what they want to do, in the name of political-uncorrectness. Which is surely exactly the same thing that those people were complaining about.
But yeah, not expecting anyone to suddenly flip their world view at this point. At least not unless they get a daughter at some point… that might do it.
