Ratchet & Clank have been a part of our lives at Insomniac for over 12 years. To this day, the series inspires us with the promise of new planetary adventures, propulsive action, and intergalactic wonder.
In 2015, we have the rare (actually, for us, unprecedented) opportunity to expand Ratchet’s universe simultaneously in two forms. We’ll continue our involvement with the Ratchet & Clank feature film. And we’re excited to announce that we’re also developing a game that shares the film’s vision of Ratchet’s origin story. As featured in Sony’s press conference, the game re-imagines the original Ratchet & Clank, with updated gameplay and completely new visuals built from the ground up for the PlayStation 4.
Our California and North Carolina studios are making the game together, marking our deepest cross-country collaboration to date. Many of the original developers responsible for the very first Ratchet & Clank game have an opportunity to create the stunning Solana Galaxy that they–and our fans–have always wanted to see. Longtime Design Director Brian Allgeier, Studio Director Chad Dezern, and Game Director Shaun McCabe will lead the project.

Ratchet and Clank will be returning on PS4!
Big news, especially for Ratchet fans, I believe they released 3 games on PS3 and the future of Ratchet was uncertain. IIRC the games got favourable to mixed receptions (one of the games was a download only title I think, Quest for Booty… yes lol). IMO the PS3 games were very solid titles and of course had the trademark wild and wildly upgradable weapons. I did not get into the series on PS2 at all, but I really enjoyed the responsive gameplay in the PS3 titles, felt very tight in control in both platforming and shooting elements, which is the entire game of course.
It will be a sight to behold on how Pixar-like the graphics will be on PS4, because the achieved a very nice benchmark on PS3, very pretty games. I had the first Ratchet & Clank game on PS3 and I believe that game ran at a very nice 720p60, and looked very clean and 3D film-like in its art, so it will be nice to see what they can achieve with ~10x the horsepower.
In other news, Order 1886 will be releasing next Friday! I have it pre-ordered so I will share some impressions probably and most likely some screens or videos as well
Next month Bloodborne is coming up too, got that pre-ordered since much longer
