What do you guys use to import/store/organize your photos these days (if you do)?
Since the days of digital cameras, I’ve tried a couple (such as Picasa) and for the past 5 years or so I’ve been using Windows Live Photo Gallery, which was actually really good. Fast, simple, most of the features you need but not to complex or overwhelming UI.
MS hasn’t supported it for years though, and moving to a new Win10 pc means it’s mostly off the table.
I’m not sure I trust the new Win10 Photos app, as it looks on the surface to be much more of a cloud based service and I wasn’t really planning on uploading all my pics to MS.
In the past 5 years, things like WLPG and Picasa seem to have been largely replaced by could storage things like Google Photos. This has the advantage of cloud backup, but the disadvantage of lack of privacy.
Looking at desktop software, there seems to be mainly pro-level stuff like Lightroom and very basic stuff, but not much in the WLPG/Picasa vein.
(digiKam looks tempting, but I’m worried the UI will be overload for less techy family members).
I meant to grab Magix Photo manager in a recent bundle, but then forgot. Not sure if it’s good anyway.
Am i just hopelessly out of date in wanting to store my photos locally?
PS/ One of the most useful features of WLPG was that when you imported a bunch of pics from a camera or sd card, it’d group them into kinda ‘fuzzy’ groups depending on the gap between when they were taken. I haven’t really found any other software that does that… which is odd.
