hm. yeh, my impression was that, if the RTC has crashed, the clock would be stopped in the BIOS and some interaction on the part of Windows would cause the random time changes. And if the problem was that Windows can’t read the RTC, Windows wouldn’t be showing the same time as the BIOS clock, I think.
… I am having no luck finding out what the default factory date is for AM BIOS, but I wouldn’t think it’d be 2083. Don’t know, though.
I think I’ll go with alms and suggest you replace the CMOS battery (and/or make sure the current one is seated properly; I have had one that somehow ended up being misaligned, so it worked most of the time, but sometimes not). That should reset the settings at the same time if you leave the battery out for a few minutes.
