Well that’s something!
I can only imagine re: social distancing in Japan, a country legendary for the ability of it’s people to jam themselves into trains and where you regularly see footage of insane crowds (even by London standards). Damn.
It’s kind of frustrating here to, after doing a brief, successful, shopping mission, realize all the small things you missed, but also realize given you’re over 40, have asthma, and so on, that really shouldn’t go out and get them.
I’m also concerned about the government’s destined-to-end-in-tears libertarian-style “Let the free market it sort it out!” proposed approach to getting the “Have you have covid-19?” kits out there. Apparently their plan, once the initial testing of the kits is done in a week or so, to try and just give them to Amazon, Boots, and so on to sell (thx for putting more money/power in Jeff Bezos pocket, Boris, you self-annihilating moron), and they will assume people who need them will buy them and so on, but this is simply not how these sort of markets work.
Even assuming they put some kind of limit on how many an individual can buy, they’ll all get bought up immediately by a combination of:
A) Middle-class idiots, who know perfectly well they neither they nor their family have had anything resembling covid-19, but feel the need to buy them anyway. And probably keep doing this every time more come into stock, because they have enough money to be this dumb.
B) Scalpers, who will want to re-sell the test at twice or more the price on ebay or the like, and just blocking them on ebay won’t stop them, there are other sites.
C) People who want to send them to their family abroad to test themselves, which is totally understandable, but is going to help to defeat the point of the tests, which is to get people here to be able to know if they’ve had the virus, so they can make decisions based on that.
And hell probably
D) Companies trying to buy them up to sell them in other countries.
It also means that:
- The government will have NO FUCKING CLUE how many people actually test positive, because supposedly the test is self-contained, you don’t send it away or anything.
- All the people who are like “It’s all a joke mate innit” or “I’m far too posh and important to possible get covid-19!” will just start fucking lying and claiming they did the test (and if there’s a results thing, will probably use those belonging to other people, because again, the current plan doesn’t make the results specific to an individual), and boldly striding out to catch/spread some more corona for everyone.
It’s clearly currently all Boris/Cuntface (whatever he’s called, Cummings) who are deeply hurt (just look at Boris, he 100% looks like he wants to kill himself ASAP) by the fact that they’re having to engage in massive socialism, trying to go for a sort of “Libertarianism saves the world!” approach, but Libertarianism fundamentally cannot deal with this kind of issue. Hopefully the pair of twats will get slapped around by their advisors and other Tories enough that they do something more sensible in terms of handing them out.
