It’s the return of Arena Legend Review! For this Karazhan edition, it’s Medivh himself. He ended up in a rather odd deck with a bunch of good early game, a terrible mid-game, and then a trio of good high cost spells, namely Starfire, Starfall and Moonglade Portal.
I went to 9 wins, much to my surprise. Most of my wins involved getting a fast start and playing aggressively. There were a couple in which I stalled in the mid-game, but was able to play Medivh on turn 8. Because I had their health down nice and low, they weren’t able to punish my slow play, and had to clear the 7/7 body. Three spells later, I’d retaken the board through sheer value. Fun, and effective. Medivh is a rather strong pick, but only for the right deck.
My final loss was to a Mage who was able to out value my Medivh with a pair of Firelands Portals, but that deck also had a Flamestrike, a Polymorph, a Frostbolt, a Fireball… you know. One of those.
The deck guest starred Shifter Zerus. It’s a fun card, and sometimes pulls out some neat things. You need to get it early to have a better chance of getting a useable card, but then it takes up a card in your hand… all too frequently I’d end up playing it as something substandard, serving to remind me that the average quality of cards selected for your deck is higher than the average random minion.
