If you don’t mind bad looks, just get Superlux headphones and either modmic them or mod a microphone yourself to them. As previous posters have said, most of the surround sound -promising headphones, especially in that price category - are simply crap. Hence, it makes sense to spend that money on a good set of headphones and attach a cheap microphone to it. Granted, you won’t have scroll wheel for volume control, but then again, everything is a matter of taste. I thought I’d miss it, but I don’t.
And why Superlux? Because they’re dirt cheap and almost compares to Beyerdynamic DT770/990. So, Superlux HD330 or 660, or, heck, even 681 would be good (but they’re not as good as the other two if you mod the mic yourself).
Here’s some pictures of what I mean. I’ve done the exact same thing to my Superlux HD660 and love them to death.
Also, Beyerdynamic velour pads fit these headphones, so there’s that. They come with leather pads and I was planning on changing them out, but haven’t actually gotten around to do it yet.
