I came across this in the comments on an article about Outriders’ always online requirement. It’s a little program that tells Windows to pause the process that is currently in focus, which is useful if you want a break from a game that (currently) can’t be paused, like in the middle of a cutscene. It also gives the pause button on your keyboard something to do, the poor, neglected thing!
The author gives Witcher 3 cutscenes as an example (even though I’m pretty sure you can pause those now) but there are plenty of other games that don’t give you the option to pause at any time. However, multiplayer and always-online games like Outriders probably won’t tolerate it since the game will stop sending data to the server, and it’ll kick you anyway.
So check it out if this seems like something you’d like: https://github.com/ryanries/UniversalPauseButton
