Agreed. I played Return of the Obra Dinn last month, and it completely blew me away. I love that it provides a framework to feel like you’re playing detective in a much more tangible way than any other games I can think of. I got completely sucked into it for a few days, trying to piece everything together.
Aesthetically, and thematically, I think it’s incredibly well realised and cohesive - everything fits togethers and just feels right. The framing, the music and art design, that short leitmotif when you do the thing. Oh, man, I love it.
I would love to see more games take this sort of idea and push it in other directions.
