Kingdom: Classic’s free at Humble.
Hmm, so one does hear. Last I looked at it however (around a year ago, when it was a year old), I still found it an insufferable jankfest. Like the concept, loathe the execution. A vision of hell smeared in browns and reds, apt you might think but it just doesn’t work & makes it hard to find your way around. Gameplay-slash-“combat” is rudimentary and wooden to the point of unintentional laughability, either way it gets old very fast. When you’re not fighting you’re stumbling around the dreariness looking for interactables, in a form of modern 3d point-and-clicking that serves to immediately negate any sense of immersion you might have felt.*
Their recent release of a prologue demo for the upcoming sequel, Succubus, did nothing to convince me they’ve learned from the experience. I think there are just core design choices here that can’t or won’t be fixed. Uninstalled, unwishlisted & deeply unrecommended.
*Sadly it’s an approach that’s widely adopted now especially for horror games. I don’t know if it’s relatively cheap or easy to do, but this barrage of failed interactive movies-cum-walking simulators really has to stop. That’s not scary or thrilling nor indeed immersive, no more, please.
