Nah, I don’t think that they are ‘messed up’, it’s more that they are working correctly, and that’s somewhat confusing when threads are re-born.
The old forums didn’t really have anything like that, so it wouldn’t have been such an issue. (NB - it’s not a major issue, even now)
Just as an example:
The forum subscribes you to threads that you post in or read for a long time, and then notifies you of changes in the “Unread” section or in the “Suggested Topics” section at the bottom of threads.
I find that I’m using those A LOT on the new forum.
So new posts in What are you playing? PC Bargains etc… all show up there.
But there were a couple of posts in the PC Bargains thread that I missed, because it was a new thread and so I wasn’t subscribed and I didn’t get any indication that new posts had been made.
(I assume I’m still subscribed to the old version, but that won’t get any new posts anyway).
Then I noticed there were a bunch of “new” threads in the Suggested Topics list… and then realized - Hang on, those aren’t new… they’re the ones I’m already reading!
So then I had to pop into each thread and turn on tracking manually.
Which isn’t a huge issue, and I’m not complaining, but it seems to be somewhat working against the strengths of Discourse. (Notifying, tracking, etc…)
It might have been a bit annoying if I’d missed a really great bargain because I assumed I was tracking the thread and I actually wasn’t anymore. Though that’s probably only really an issue for that thread as it can be more time sensitive.
