Lords of the Fallen is completely shit. Back when I had my love/hate relationship with Souls games I tried it. And I have to say its one of the worst games I have ever played. Clunky and slow; the lightest one handed weapons swing like Ultra Greatswords from DS. The player character is slow. And the Bosses are just giant damage sponges reliant on minions during the battle…And if that were not enough, its absolutely riddled with show stopping, game crashing bugs.
Basically, its everything you would come to expect from a studio whose leadership is completely obsessed with Souls games, but who does not understand what it is about Souls games that make them great. They think they can copy the combat system, throw it into a bleak but stereotypical fantasy world, or a sci fi garbage dump, and voila…Souls-like Masterpiece.
Which is a ashame. The studio clearly has excellent tech. Skilled animators. And some imagination. It leads me to wonder what they would do with it all, if their leadership was not so obsessed with copying other people’s work instead of making his own.
In regards to Souls: Yes, I was dumb enough to buy the Remastered Edition. And yes, I am so far enjoying it, in small doses. Taurus Demon goes a lot smoother once you understand you can just block. The Gargoyles drop like house flies to Sir Sun Knight. Found out completely by accident that I could summon help for the Butterfly, so, cheesed that recently. And since I started with the…correct…gift, I’ll be skipped the Capra Demon this time round and only dabbling in that area which shall not be named.
Now that Souls games are the only ones I am playing, I dont mind spending some serious time with them. Taking things carefully, and really learning and studying each area. I figure that if I spend as much time getting to know each other area, as I did the Undead Burg/Parish, I will eventually master them just like I did the starting area. Sure it will take me 300 hours, but thats okay. I have played so many generic FPS and D&D/LoTR wannabes that I would rather die a 1000 times getting to know one of the Souls worlds than ever take another fetch quest from a High Elf or some dude with a machine gun intentionally designed as a lengthy, oversized Personal Confidence Enhancement Tool.
But dont worry. I pledge to only share the victories and the highlights this time round. The rest I can save for my therapist.
Seriously, though, dont play Lords of the Fallen. Unless you personally, intentionally killed someone’s kitten, whatever you did probably wasnt bad enough to deserve that.
