Man, I dunno, it’s Dark Souls. If there is any game that I feel deserves dropping fifty bucks on, it’s that.
I’ve read that they’re going to take a page from Dark Souls 3 and up the limit for simultaneous multiplayer characters to six, so that the various covenants have enough bodies to work with. I wonder if they’re going to make changes to anything else. Its combat system was dissected meticulously until high-skill PvP became a contest of who could exploit backstab mechanics the most effectively, and some could pull off backstab chains that, if executed properly, were impossible to escape from. I’d be surprised if they kept that in.
I do not envy the team that’s remastering this. How much of the original’s idiosynchranies do they preserve? Knight class characters fat rolling by default? The armor upgrading system, that made a ragged loincloth top-tier if you upgraded it enough? Pyromancy being a Disc-One Nuke that you could pump up to ridiculous power, bypassing the need for titanite? Only two ring slots, which are guaranteed to be filled by Havel’s Ring and the Fap Ring? Black Iron Tarkus being able to solo the Iron Golem? Capra Demon?
A lot of those things could be improved without necessarily being detrimental to the spirit of the original game, but for every one of those I’m sure somebody will be upset that they changed it.
