Anybody else likes small / travel mice?

I am looking for a new mouse. These are my wants:

• as small as possible
• wireless
• non-monstrous looks
• affordable

Some that I’ve been looking at: Asus Strix Carry, Razer Atheris, Corsair Harpoon Wireless, Logitech MX Anywhere 2S.

As a form factor, I like hard-core laptop mice under 100 mm, however those seem to be fairly cheaply built compared to even the most inexpensive of the above, the Atheris.

I had a Logitech Anywhere MX and replaced it with an Anywhere 2, which is just as good except with a rechargeable battery, which also makes it lighter. It’s comfortable, good battery life, good software, and just the right number of buttons. You definitely can’t go wrong with that.

The Logitech G Series is advertised as fully comparable to wired for input lag, but I wasn’t able to find anything about the Anywhere 2S.

Have you ever noticed any input lag in FPS’s or otherwise felt any difference compared to a wired mouse?

Well, I haven’t used a wired mouse since I got the first Anywhere, which was… 2009. But I played a shit-ton of Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Black Mesa and Prey with this mouse, and input lag has never been noticeable for me.

That has been my experience with wireless mice, too; however, reading gamers split the hair about milliseconds planted a doubt, if perhaps I might have been somewhat lucky with my devices?

Meanwhile, I did order a new mouse, though, as mine has been failing, so I might try to pit the old one against this supposedly blazing fast, new piece of technology.

Well, I have a Strix Carry in my hands (…almost, I’m typing!)

First impressions:

• These were all things I already knew about after reading TechPowerup’s review

  • heavy with AA batteries (must switch to AAA) - the combination of weight and surface I’m using it on, makes a new mouse pad almost a given
  • default switches have noticeable pre-travel, making them feel subjectively ‘floaty’ and slower than mice that cost a fraction - it comes with another set, though; switches can be changed with tweezers (provided in the box)
  • the removable top shell looks kind of flimsy, it feels solid when it’s on tho
  • the side buttons are kind of soft but not in a bad way, not sure about responsiveness in games

• These I didn’t anticipate - chiefly because I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking before purchasing:

  • don’t like the concave shape too much - I’d probably prefer a convex shape or straight sides.
    • wide back makes the hand position feel kind of forced - I would rather grip more towards the rear, but it feels too wide and/or curved there, and I’m compelled to move my hand back forward, distracting
    • widening at the front, too, bumping into things like keyboard, as the narrow grip is misleading me into thinking the mouse is smaller
  • the looks are understated to a fault, what with all the black matte plastic surfaces. Not that I care, just it isn’t saying “look at me I’m an elegant, posh mouse”

I tried a couple latency tests:

• reaction is indistinguishable from my previous mouse, likely because input lag is dwarfed by other components
• in a bump test, with the default switches, it is on average 5 milliseconds faster, which I would call nothing.
