Ghostery is your friend. You can unblock the least intrusive ad providers and maintain a blanket ban on that detestable taboola sewage.
On a more positive note, I see that the massive back-of-the-page banner ads have gone, and on the desktop version of the site there is a noticable decrease in horrible clickbait between the article and the comments. So thanks for that, ads people. This makes it much easier to unblock things.
It’s a different story on the mobile site, though. This is what I have to scroll through to get from the article to the comments:
The only duplicate screenshot there is of the eurogamer video, in the others it really is the same ads repeated three or four times. They’re not overly objectionable - some of the earlier taboola stuff was much, much worse - but isn’t it still a bit much? I know there is a ‘jump to comments’ link but that doesn’t justify stuffing the space between full of repeated ads.
